Rockwell Builds New Weatherproof Play Area for Local Children’s Charity, SEAPIA

SEAPIA (Sands End Associated Projects In Action) is an important charity which provides an inclusive, safe, and enriching environment for children and young people aged 4-14 in the local area of Sands End, Fulham.

An outdoor play area, which would allow the children to continue playing and learning outside at SEAPIA in the autumn and winter months when the weather turns, has been a pipeline project for some time. Due to the associated cost, however, SEAPIA had not been able to build it.

After learning about the project and the important work that SEAPIA does for the community local to our SW6 development project, Hurlingham Waterfront, we committed to building the new weatherproof play area at our recent groundbreaking ceremony, and so began the ‘SEAPIA Outdoor Classroom Project’.

At the inauguration ceremony this week, speeches were heard from Deputy Leader for Hammersmith and Fulham, Councillor Ben Coleman, alongside Rockwell Managing Director, Nicholas Mee, and Julie Cavanagh, Project Manager of SEAPIA. SEAPIA trustees and staff, local residents, and some of the 240 children and their parents who benefit from SEAPIA’s childcare services we all present for the official unveiling.

Speaking at the inauguration, Nicholas Mee, Managing Director of Rockwell said: “Investing in local communities has always been a key part of our work at Rockwell and we are proud to continue our positive legacy through this project for SEAPIA. It’s a great charity that provides so much for local families and children, giving them a space to express themselves.

“We’ve built this cover to last, so that generations of local school children can benefit from it, and we’re on the lookout for similar charities and projects in the local area where we can continue to make a difference and go beyond the building that we are creating at Hurlingham Waterfront.”

Julie Cavanagh, Project Manager of SEAPIA said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project possible – to Rockwell for building the play area cover, to Cllr Coleman, for the official opening, and to everyone who came to celebrate this special occasion. The children are delighted with it and will be so happy that they can now play outside all year if they want to. This project has really transformed what we are able to offer at SEAPIA.”
